Under the hood is a great-looking powerplant. The 292 cubic-inch motor was known as the Thunderbird V8 in ’57, and so those valve covers have been earned. It’s a powerhouse of a motor, but it doesn’t lose its easy cruising attitude as it sweetly purrs through its extended dual exhaust system. The three-speed automatic transmission stays comfortable as it clicks through the gears without a fuss. Plus, power steering and Fairlane-style suspension mean this is great cruising classic.
