You can tell there’s something special about this 1976 GMC C1500 pickup
The color theme is classic, but the wheels are pure modern cool. And so as you dig a little deeper, you’ll find a hot fuel-injected V8, overdrive transmission, four-wheel disc brakes, cold A/C interior, a custom frame, and full air ride suspension. It makes for a truck where cool classic style hides a full custom build.
The air ride suspension means you can watch jaws drop at the same rate as the truck’s body. But even when you have this one at a normal cruising height, you can instantly tell it’s something special. The tan and cream two-tone has a classic 1970s style, but the level of gloss and shine is unmistakable from a modern application. Plus, the straight sheet metal tells you that this is no workhorse. Chrome bumpers, round headlights, and full-length side trim give this a great classic look. And Heavy Half decal is a great addition that will get a cool nod from true vintage GMC fans. But there has also been plenty of investment in modern style. After all, they didn’t have those shining US Mags wheels back in ’76. Not only do you have an extra-large size (20/24 inches front/rear), but also they expertly tuck into this custom build whenever the truck is lowered. In fact, when you look in the bed, people may be too busy looking at the color-matched liner paint to realize the floor was expertly raised to accommodate the upgraded suspension. It’s all part of a very thoughtful and fun setup.
Just like the exterior, the interior gives off a nice feeling of premium quality and period-correct style. The carpets, door panels, headliner, and the dash pad all have coordinating earth-tone hues, and the wood-like paneling certainly lives up to the Sierra Grande trim name. You’ll slip behind the factory dual-spoke steering wheel, and this gives you a commanding view of the full gauge panel in the driver-oriented dash. There are well-integrated upgrades, like how the Clarion AM/FM/cassette stereo gives you a digital tuner while still fitting in with this truck’s old-school incognito style. And the factory air conditioning is now blowing cold with modern R134a refrigerant.
At first glance, the engine bay could almost pass for stock. You have a tidy but dark set up with the classic air grabber, and the bright block and valve covers radiating in the middle. But if you look closer, you’ll see that this 350 cubic-inch V8 is built with an Edelbrock electronic fuel injection for better power and consistency. There’s also an Edelbrock Air Gap intake, HEI distributor, MSD coil, and a sweet-sounding dual exhaust w/Flowmasters. The transmission is a Hughes Performance 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission was specially built for a great everyday balance – including a 3000 stall for performance driving and overdrive for easy cruising. As you look underneath, you’ll see that this one rides on an upgraded chassis. Plus, you have a tubular A-arm front suspension and a strong four-link rear – and yes, they are all adjustable as part of the air ride system. Completing this driver-friendly feeling is a full Wilwood slotted four-wheel disc brake package, power steering, and the grip of Pirelli P-Zero tires.
